In the beginning was the kernel. And then came the apps. The apps are loosely connected. X graphics engine, DBus, and others. And the apps run on top of the kernel. Soon the apps began to integrate. And thus was born the GNOME, KDE, LXDE and the like. Soon the packages explode. In the beginning was the kernel. Then came Debian. And Ubuntu.
Well, let’s give credit where it’s due, and Canonical truly deserves it. Without further ado, these are the notable Ubuntu-derived distros in no particular order.
